Charging Policy
Charging
There are no charges for activities, which form part of the normal curriculum. However, without contributions from parents other trips designed to enhance the curriculum will not be able to take place. Parents may therefore be asked for a contribution towards the cost of any activities arranged during school time, but no student will be excluded because his or her family is experiencing hardship.
- Musical Tuition: When parents choose to arrange tuition for their children through the school, the cost of hiring instruments and the tutor’s fees will be met by those in receipt of tuition. Full remission may be possible for those families who suffer financial hardship.
- Practical Subjects: The school will charge the full cost or require the supply of ingredients and materials if the parents have indicated in advance a wish to own the finished product.
- Optional Extras: If a journey and/or an event is organised outside school hours, then the cost will be charged for.
- Residence: In the case of a residential trip, no matter whether it be part of an examination syllabus or the National Curriculum, the actual cost of board and lodging will be charged. However, remission is possible for families who suffer financial hardship, if the visit is deemed to be during school hours or is an integral part of an examination or of the National Curriculum.
- Examinations: If a student fails to complete the course work or does not arrive for an examination, the full cost of the wasted entry fee will be charged.
- Breakages and Fines: If a student breaks a window, destroys equipment or in any other way damages school property, and should the school believe this to be the result of vandalism or recklessness, then the full cost will be charged.
Journeys
Every opportunity is taken to extend the learning experience. In addition to a multitude of day visits to centres of sporting, cultural and historical interest, some longer journeys are undertaken involving one or more nights away from home. Parental permission is always needed for any school journey.
Travel is expensive. A large part of school funds goes to subsidise school journeys and the use of our minibus minimises costs. Help can be given in meeting these costs. Under current legislation the school will not be able to charge parents directly for such events, but
will have to rely on voluntary contributions in order to sustain the present level of extra-curricular activity.
Whenever your son/daughter is taking part in an activity outside school we need to have a current form, signed by parents/guardians, for emergency treatment to be given if needed.
An emergency telephone number is also vital.
