ICT

The college is well-equipped with three computer suites, plus a further three in the sixth form. There also interactive whiteborads and data projectors.
All students at the College study ICT in Years 7-9 for two lessons per week. In Year 10 students can opt to take the subject at Level 2 and will follow the OCR Nationals syllabus leading to four GCSEs at grade C or above. In KS5 students can continue with the subject and work towards the Applied A-Level in ICT.
Given the importance of ICT in work and in everyday situations, students are encouraged to learn
the key computer-based skills needed to succeed in life after school. In KS3 we deliver core units to all students which cover spreadsheet techniques, word processing, email, multimedia presentations, project management, desktop publishing and web design. In every unit students are expected to develop their ICT skills in the context of real-life scenarios. Students are also taught skills in evaluating their own work and that of their peers.
In KS4 students are guided through the OCR Nationals in ICT and can expect to achieve four GCSEs at grade C or above. Coursework units include web design, spreadsheets, database design, multimedia presentations and how ICT is used for business. This is a very relevant course for those wishing to work in technology-related jobs or in large businesses.
The department has an excellent record of academic success in this subject at both KS4 and KS5.
Students who choose to continue to study ICT at KS5 will investigate topics such as ICT in Society
and ICT in Organizations as well as developing their skills using the software to a more advanced level.
