Learning Support Centre
Extending your child’s reading skills is one of the learning support centres’ major aims. The staff are all qualified in the phonics programme ‘Sounds Write’ which boosts the reluctant readers confidence. There is a full programme of age related reading projects and lessons. There are morning (8.30) and afternoon (3.30-4.30) reading clubs for that little extra help (parents will received letters if their child is to be entered on the programme).
Add to that practical help with homework and coursework makes the LSC a comfortable and relaxed learning environment to gain that extra knowledge and the staff pride themselves on boosting the confidence of all students who attend lessons therein.
- Plus there are 5 computers available for homework etc.
- There is help available for all subjects, call in and see.
At break and lunch the centre is open for students who feel that the playgrounds or Astroturf are a little too busy for them (mainly year 7). We encourage quiet free time activities – jigsaw puzzles, board game, chatting and of course reading.
