Maths
In Year 7 the students are taught in tutor groups initially and then set according to ability.
Years 8-11 are set, based on assessment carried out throughout the year.
The department’s schemes of work are based on the National Curriculum.
All four attainment targets are covered throughout the year and regularly assessed.
In Years 7-9 students follow the National Strategy leading towards the SATs in Year 9.
Years 10 and 11 follow the Edexcel GCSE course. During the two years students complete
two pieces of coursework, one testing their ability to use and apply mathematics and
the other testing data handling skills.
In addition some students will be given the opportunity to study Statistics to GCSE level in Year 11.
