PSHE

Personal, Social, Health & Citizenship Education

PSHE Enrichment is taught to all years and is an important basis for developing the citizens of the future. The aims of the college form the framework of the PSHE programmes of study. The aims of PSHE are to prepare students for their journey through adolescence, further and higher education, society and the world of work. Students are encouraged to think about the college ethos and their position as a member of its community.

Careers Education
Careers Education is an integral part of Enrichment at KS3 and KS4. Students learn how to
make decisions about the wider choice of pathways available to them.  In year 9 and 11, students
are offered impartial guidance from our CONNEXIONS Adviser concerning careers guidance and
routes to further education and training.  We aim to assist all students in Year 9 to make the
correct choice of subjects to study for GCSE/GNVQ and to spend time with Year 11 ensuring that
they make informed choices concerning post 16 studies/work. Various speakers from local
companies and colleges are invited into college to offer advice and guidance on a variety of
topics such as interview technique, CVs and form filling.

Citizenship Education

Citizenship education is provided through the enrichment programme in addition to projects such as anti-bullying initiatives, peer mentoring and opportunities to participate in the school council or well-being (Healthy School) committee.

Sex Education

It is the policy of Castle Community College to teach a programme of sex education that will develop in a student the ability for him/her to form meaningful and responsible relationships. The programme includes social, physical, emotional and moral elements in order that a student will have due regard, not only for the workings of the body, but also of the mind, moral considerations and the value of family life. The programme is delivered mainly during Enrichment lessons, but also in science, and takes place through all years. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from, all or part of the sex education programme run by the college.

The college's Sex Education policy is available to parents on request.
