Science

Welcome to the Science Department.

Have fun with Science; take part in practical experiments.

In KS3 pupils take part in a varied range of topics including Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geology and Human Anatomy. Work is carried out through Practical tasks, theory lessons, projects, research, discussions and reading and writing activities. Pupils engage in activities that involve a number of different learning styles. Our main aim is that pupils learn but have fun whilst learning.

In KS4, pupils embark on their GCSE courses and the work gets harder!! Several courses are currently running within the department. Core Science is a one-year course that is followed by Additional Science in Year 11, giving pupils two GCSEs. Applied Vocational Science is a 2-year course and looks at Science in the Workplace; pupils are expected to work much more on their own as they go through the course. Again this course gives 2 GCSEs.

In KS5, pupils are able to take part in an 'A-Level' course in which they study Science in the workplace at a higher level. At the end of the two years they achieve 1 'A-Level'.

The department is also involved in running clubs, such as the Environment Club and members of this club look after the Eco garden set up last year at the College. We are also keen to get people re-cycling and at the moment we carry out the paper re-cycling and collection.

The interesting thing about Science is that you are learning new things all the time and what you are learning is very varied. You will come to understand how important Science is in society and how it shapes the way we live and the items we use everyday.

So if you want to be part of a growing change and development in Science, then get involved and join our clubs, enjoy your lessons and be successful so that you can take what you have learned with you when you leave school and you can make a big difference!
